#1 Prioritize, and Share the Spirit of the Feast

By: Shannon McCook

Too often, we get wrapped up in perfecting the details of the big day and the spirit of the holiday is lost. This time of year is meant for us to reflect upon all that we are thankful for; not all that we have to do to make the perfect side of Brussels sprouts and top last years’ feast at your in-law’s.

As you plan the main event, take a moment to breath deeply, be grateful for all you have, and prioritize. Do you really need a fancy table runner or centerpiece? Will a few pruned tree branches and colorful leaves work just as well at the center of the table? Is it too much to ask your dinner guests to bring a favorite dish of their own? Your guests will be more than happy to bring a dish and would never expect you to do it all!

Also—Consider making a little bit less this year. If you’re only expecting 8 guests, why make enough food for 20? Leftovers are a wonderful thing, but consider how much leftovers you’ll really want to have.
