For St. Patty's Day, serve up this classic bread from the Emerald Isle

UPDATE: Dear Readers, a misprint was made on the Soda Bread recipe as it appeared in the March 2011 issue of dash. The recipe should read "4 cups flour", not "2 cups flour". We regret the error and hope you enjoy making this great soda bread with the corrected ingredient quantity below.
ingredients: Add all to shopping list
4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 Tbsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
½ cup margarine, softened
2/3 cup raisins
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg

¼ cup melted butter
¼ cup buttermilk
directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a large baking sheet.

2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, margarine, and cup raisins. Stir in 1 cup buttermilk and egg.

3. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface. Form into a round; place on sheet.

4. In a small bowl, combine melted butter and ¼ cup buttermilk; brush loaf. Cut an “X” into top and bake 45–50 minutes, or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Serve with preserves.
