1. Cut a heart shape out of the marshmallows. Set aside.
2. In a large saucepan, whisk the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually stir in the hot water. Whisk very well. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
3. Add the milk and chocolate syrup. Reduce heat and cook over low, stirring, until very hot. Don’t let mixture boil. Stir in ⅛ tsp peppermint extract.
4. Ladle into mugs. Garnish with marshmallow hearts or peppermint sticks.
