Note: This recipe was revised on 1/30 with the correct measurements for mustard and mayonnaise. We also suggest reducing the amound of ham and turkey needed from 1 lb to 1/2 lb.
ingredients:
1 (12- to 14-inch long) loaf of crusty bread, unsliced (or use a large round loaf instead)
½ head curly green lettuce, washed and dried
1/2 lb sliced deli ham
½ lb sliced American cheese
1/2 lb sliced deli turkey
2 tomatoes, sliced thin
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 Tbsp mustard
Minced garlic

Optional:
1/4 lb sliced capicola or salami
1/4 lb provolone cheese
Hot pickled peppers
Roasted red peppers
Pickles
Olive oil
Balsamic vinegar
Salt and pepper
directions:

1. Slice the loaf in half crosswise. Line the bottom half of the loaf with a layer of lettuce leaves. Fold ham slices in half and arrange over the lettuce so that they are slightly overlapping. Top with cheese slices, making sure to arrange them so that they come to the edges of the loaf.

2. Fold the turkey slices in half and arrange on top of the cheese. Top with tomato slices. Arrange the top half of the loaf over the tomatoes, pressing down slightly.

3. Prepare your toppings and garnishes: In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise with mustard and stir in a little minced garlic. Serve on the side, along with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, jarred roasted red peppers, hot pickled peppers, salt and pepper, and let guests personalize their sandwiches.
