Sara Foster, author of Southern Kitchen, shares a family recipe for candied sweet potatoes that no one can resist. Serve warm with the syrup spooned over and around the potatoes. 
ingredients:
3 medium sweet potatoes (about 2 pounds)
1 cup water
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
4 Tbsp unsalted butter
Juice of 1 orange
1 cinnamon stick
Pinch of sea salt

1. Peel the potatoes and cut in half lengthwise. Cut each half lengthwise into 3 or 4 wedges, depending on the size of the potato.

2. Place the potatoes and water in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, butter, orange juice, cinnamon stick, and salt and bring the mixture to a low boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat and simmer, covered , for about 25 minutes, until the potatoes are tender when pierced with the tip of a small knife and the sauce is thick and syrupy. Serve warm with the syrup spooned over and around the potatoes.
