How to cook a juicy steak. It's a common question we're always asked. First, I love to grill sirloin steak. To start grilling steak, you want to make sure the grill is nice and hot. When you're done grilling, take the steak off the grill and let it rest for at least 5 minutes. During that 5 minutes, the temperature will rise about 3 to 5 degrees.
How do you tell the steak temperature without a thermometer? Here's a trick that requires no special equipment:
- Using your hand, align your thumb with your pointer finger, and press on the fleshy part of your hand at the base of your thumb. That level of firmness is how a steak should feel when it's rare.
- Align your thumb to your middle finger, and press on the fleshy part of your hand at the base of your thumb. That level of firmness is how a steak will feel when it's medium.
- Align your thumb to your ring finger, and press on the fleshy part of your hand at the base of your thumb. That level of firmness is how a steak will feel when it's medium-well.
- Align your thumb to your pinky finger, and press on the fleshy part of your hand at the base of your thumb. That level of firmness is how a steak will feel when it's well-done.
