Use brightly colored raffia ribbon to make these easy ornaments for your backyard.
What you’ll need:
• 12-inch inflatable beach ball
• Twine
• Newspaper or waxed paper
• 100-yard spool of colorful paper raffia ribbon (available at craft stores)
• White craft glue
• Plastic spoon
• Shallow plastic bowl
Directions:
1. Inflate the ball and tightly plug the valve. Attach a long piece of twine near the valve. Suspend the ball over a table covered with newspaper or waxed paper.
2. Cut the raffia into 20 to 25 yard-long pieces. Using the spoon, mix equal parts glue and water in the bowl. Dip a strand of raffia into the glue mixture, squeeze off the excess, and wrap it around the ball. Repeat with additional strands, overlapping them and smoothing loose ends into other strands, until the ball is evenly covered.
3. Hang overnight to dry (over newspaper to catch drips), then unplug the valve to deflate. Remove the deflated ball through an opening in the raffia.
