In a recent survey of more than 14,000 Americans, it was revealed that while more than half (54%) acknowledge the importance of eating a healthy breakfast in the morning, only one third actually make the time to do so. Perhaps even more surprising-- of the mothers surveyed in this same study - 89% said they feel it's important that their children eat breakfast every day, but 40% admit to the fact that their child does not eat before dashing off to school.
While it's arguably the easiest meal of the day to prepare, it can also be the healthiest. According to Dr. Laura Jana, pediatrician and award-winning author of Heading Home with Your Newborn and Food Fights, introducing young children to the habit of eating a meal every morning can significantly improve not only their health, but also their overall well-being.
A simple bowl of cereal every morning can provide up to 10 vital nutrients for growing children, and the Journal of the American Dietetic Association has even shown that regular cereal eaters are less likely to be overweight and nutrient deficient.
